Acquit Dewitt
The Fourth Campaign Miles For Justice campaign began in April 2022 after the judge granted Dewitt Mcdonald's immediate release and the state of Ohio refused to let him out of prison.
Dewitt Mcdonald Jr. has been wrongly incarcerated for 27 years for a crime in which no physical evidence or eyewitness testimony has ever linked him to the scene. Dewitt was convicted along with two other men for the 1994 murder of Vivian Johnson, an innocent bystander who was killed in a drive-by shooting. Both of the other men have confessed to their roles in the crime, signed affidavits attesting that Dewitt was not involved, and have been out of prison for years.
Dewitt Mcdonald Jr. was denied a parole hearing for 11 years. He finally received his first parole hearing on August 30, 2022. The parole board voted 6-3 in favor of his release on September 29, 2022 yet he has not been released. Dewitt will have a full board hearing on January 18, 2023 in which those same 9 board members will revote on whether he will be released on parole.
